Why are websites great?

Your Site Matters has a wide ranging and diverse portfolio

Why WordPress?

Low Setup Cost

WordPress itself is free (wordpress.org not wordpress.com), and so are the majority of addons. There's lots of low cost WordPress hosting deals available too.

Very customisable

You can customise your website just the way you want it, and you can add more functionality to your website as your business grows. It can handle different media types too which can be very useful!

SEO Friendly

WordPress sites tend to perform better in search results and plugins like Rank Math or Yoast are available to help you optimise your content. They both have free versions.

3 Steps to set up a WordPRess site

1. Domain & Hosting

You don't have to get these from the same provider. Look for "Managed WordPress" hosting. Links to recommended providers are shown below.

2. Theme & Plugins

There are 1000s of free themes, or you might want to buy a premium theme. Some plugins come with the theme and/or you download your own.

3. Add Content

When everything is set up, you can start adding content. You can add pages, or if you're writing a blog or news articles, you an add these as posts.

WordPress (free, nearly 4000 to choose from) or Theme Forest
Before deciding on a theme, it’s always good to check the reviews, the documentation, and how good the support is

I install these plugins on most WordPress sites (they all have free versions):

Akismet – for spam protection

Wordfence – for hacking attack protection

Complianz – to generate your cookie notice and banner (needed for GDPR compliance)
Don’t forget you’ll need a privacy policy too, which you can set up at Termly

Rank Math – for SEO (it’s better than Yoast)

UpdraftPlus – for backing up your site

Monsters Insights – this is good if you want to see Google Analytics reports from within WordPress
